How to Teach English With Music

Many ways to learn English easier and more enjoyable of them are learning English with the game, learn English by reading, learn English by writing, and much more. But on this occasion we will talk about learning English with songs or music.

This learning method, it is very easy to use in independent learning and group process. This method is not much different from other methods that distinguish only a medium used during the learning process.

Understanding which meant that students are able to understand the concept of the elements of language through the introduction of the song. While the purpose of implementation is the student able to apply the teaching material that has been received through the introduction of songs in the communication process.

      Selection of songs

Before determining the choice of songs that will be used, teachers need to make some considerations:  1.    Songs are well known or liked student. 
This can be determined by, for example, teachers ask students directly about the preferred songs or music group where they know, and so on.

2.    Song must contain material that will be taught both language skills and language elements.
3.    Track must have the nature and character that contains the achievement of learning objectives.

4.    Songs must have a level of difficulty based on student ability.

5.    Song must contain the message or the value based on their age and maturity of students.

      Type of activity 
     After determining the song to be used, teachers can determine the language skills and language elements of what will be developed. This step is important because it relates to the type of activities or approaches that will be used by teachers in teaching and learning. Some examples of the kinds of activities or approaches that can be used:   

      1.Drills.

Aims to promote accuracy after students understand the meaning of the word phrases or sentences contained in the song and then trained. Listening practice, that is comparing the words in the song when pronounced it sounds similar. While repetition drills that the teacher read certain words in the song and students say these words

2.  Communication practice exercise,

Aims to develop fluency. The principle underlying this activity is students will learn how to communicate through language to communicate by using existing elements in the song.  

3.  Gap filling activity

Children asked to fill out or complete the words or phrases important in the songs deliberately omitted by the teacher. The words or phrases are usually the important terms that must be mastered by students.
4. Recording words

Students are asked to arrange the words from the text of a song that teachers were randomized after they hear a song that was played through a tape recorder.

   Implementation of the learning

Furthermore, the implementation process of learning and teaching with the popular song, teachers also should do the following things:

1. Explain what learned language skills to students are.

2. Provide basic skills training to students and discuss draft language that will be studied.

3. Repeat previous lessons required as a prerequisite to study the elements or language skills being taught.

4. Set the conditions for studying the elements or language skills that lead to the ability to communicate.

5. Perform additional exercises that accompanied rapid evaluation and feedback to students for improvement or repair.

6. In studying the complex language skills, teachers should ask students to remember concepts that they have learned.

7. Practice using the language of communication should be given in conditions as close as possible to the implementation of skills in real situations.

                This concept can be adopted for teaching in class or outbound. As for independent learning students can use the preferred song.
